No new players expected at Arsenal on deadline day, says Arteta

Arsenal have signed Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Damien Rice in the transfer window, and with three players having left the club this week, manager Mikel Arteta doesn’t expect any new arrivals.
Folarin Balogun, Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares have all moved on from Arsenal in recent days, and even with Timber out injured, their incoming business would appear to be done.
“I don’t expect anybody to come in,” Arteta told reporters on Friday.
“We’ve done quite a lot and we had a lot of uncertainty with a lot of players so we have to be very cautious. Sometimes it’s not possible and we have to adapt.
“We cannot go and buy another three players. It’s not possible.”

Liverpool’s margin for error in the transfer market is slim compared to their rivals, manager Jurgen Klopp said, while acknowledging that it is not easy to work with budget constraints.
Klopp’s side missed out on Champions League qualification after finishing fifth last season behind third-placed rivals Manchester United and Newcastle United in fourth.
Since then, Liverpool have lost as many as six senior players, with former captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho moving to Saudi Pro League clubs, while fellow midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita and forward Roberto Firmino leaving on free transfers.
Liverpool have signed midfielders Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo since the exit of these players.
“We have our situation,” the German manager told reporters. “There was one year when money was less of an issue because Phil (Philippe Coutinho) went to Barcelona and we could do two sensational transfers.”
The Merseyside club had strengthened at the back by selling midfielder Coutinho to LaLiga giants Barcelona in 2018 and using the funds to sign Dutch defender and now club skipper Virgil van Dijk before bringing in Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
“But we always spend over the years when we have to improve… Since I’ve been here, we have had to (live within our means). The club has had to, and of course that doesn’t make it easier,” Klopp said.
“The problem is not our situation, it’s just in comparison to the other main teams. We have to be on point. That’s pretty much the thing. There is not a lot of space for failure.”
Liverpool’s rivals Chelsea have spent more than $1 billion in player transfer fees since the new ownership led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed their takeover of the club in May 2022.
But Klopp said he is focused on making the best out of the resources available instead of complaining about the spending of other clubs, adding that he cannot recollect “a transfer window where every single person was happy” with Liverpool’s business.
“I want to improve the squad, I absolutely do. But I have all the information around and I know what is possible and not possible, and it’s not always exactly what I want,” he said.
Liverpool next face Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday.
Ancelotti rules out Real Madrid move for Mbappe in this window

Real Madrid have ruled out signing Kylian Mbappe before the transfer window closes next week, manager Carlo Ancelotti said on Thursday as the Paris St Germain forward continues to be linked with the LaLiga club.
Ancelotti added that Real are unlikely to do any more transfer business in the current window which closes on September 1.
When asked about France striker Mbappe, he told reporters: “No, I rule it out 100 per cent. I think our squad is closed and our players are thinking about our season.”
The transfer window remains open in Saudi Arabia beyond September 1, which means clubs from the Gulf nation could still poach Europe’s best players, but the Real boss was not concerned.
“Someone may change their mind, but I am not afraid of that,” he added ahead of Real’s LaLiga game at Celta Vigo on Friday.
Midfielder Luka Modric did not start Real’s first two league games, leading to speculation that the Croatian is unhappy with the situation, something which Ancelotti denied.
“Luka has already defined his future. He has no problem, he will contribute,” Ancelotti said.
“It’s a special situation for everybody, for him it’s strange not to play from the first minute but he will contribute as always.”
Ancelotti also said new signing Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined on loan from Chelsea, will make his debut in goal in Real’s first home league game of the season.
Andriy Lunin was the keeper in the opening two wins of the campaign after Thibaut Courtois underwent surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.

Fifa’s Disciplinary Committee has opened disciplinary proceedings against Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish FA, following his unsolicited kiss on Women’s World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso, the global soccer body said on Thursday.
The incident – which happened as Rubiales was presenting the players with their gold medals after they beat England 1-0 in the final on Sunday – sparked outrage within and outside Spain, with Hermoso saying such acts should “never go unpunished”.
“The Fifa Disciplinary Committee informed Luis Rubiales, President of the Spanish Football Association, today that it is opening disciplinary proceedings against him based on the events that occurred during the final of the Women’s World Cup,” it said in a statement.
“The events may constitute violations of article 13 paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code.”
Article 13 in the code deals with “offensive behaviour” of players and officials, particularly with “violating the basic rules of decent conduct” and “behaving in a way that brings the sport into disrepute”.
Rubiales, who initially called his critics “idiots”, issued a video apology late on Monday, but it failed to quell the uproar.
Acting Second Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz called for Rubiales’ resignation because “without any doubt (he) attacked a woman”.
Spain’s women’s football league, Liga F, called for Rubiales to be dismissed and said it had lodged a complaint with the president of the National Sports Council (CSD) over his “very serious actions and behaviour”.
Hermoso, who said after the final that she did not enjoy Rubiales’ kiss, added on Wednesday that her union FUTPRO, and her agency TMJ were defending her interests in the matter.
“We are working to ensure that acts such as those we have seen never go unpunished, that they are sanctioned and that the exemplary measures are adopted to protect women footballers from actions that we believe are unacceptable,” she said.

“For a long time I have felt that Harry Kane would be the perfect replacement for Karim Benzema at Real Madrid,” the former Barcelona midfielder wrote in his Telegraphcolumn.
“Of course, Benzema showed again at the European Championships that he is not going anywhere and that he is playing very, very well, but the fact I even think Kane is capable of taking over from him in Madrid shows how highly I rate him.
“The pressure at Madrid, like it was at Barcelona, is not something every player could cope with. But if Benzema ever left or ever started to slow down a little bit, then Kane would be the right guy for them.
“Even without knowing him very well myself, you can see that he has a good mentality and you hear from other people that he works and trains hard.
“Jose Mourinho, as people saw on the documentary, always talks about Kane very, very highly. He has what you want from your captain and he has what you need to be a top player.
“For five or six years now Kane has been one of the best strikers in the world. He has been so consistent, scoring so many goals and there have been so many games that he changed. Last season, we also saw that he is still adding new things to his game with all of his assists for Tottenham.”

The young forward wants to forget this sour moment as fast as possible and the only way is to make a decision. “He is a really good professional. People can look at him and probably think he’s a party boy,” Mourinho told talkSPORT.
“I think he got this maturity in Lyon which is sometimes what players need.
“Sometimes they can go too early to the biggest clubs where they are not ready to cope with it. Where they are not ready to understand that in the biggest clubs there is internal competition, that you can not play all the time. That there are fantastic players to fight with you for a position. They can lose a little sense of reality and become a bit childish. Which is what happened.
“So when he decided to go to Lyon it was a great move for him and now he goes to Barcelona with maturity, with a good football age and I believe the Barcelona culture of football will help him also to level up in this important part of his career.”
Mourinho added: “But good memories of him and I repeat – he was a good professional.”
Of course, Mourinho may have a point on Depay’s time in France. The forward has rebuilt his career in the last four years at Lyon and did enough to earn a free transfer to Barcelona this summer.
At 27 years of age, Depay heads to Camp Nou with his best days arguably still ahead of him.

At around the 10th minute of the game, drama ensued Arena Nationala with the fans on the edge of their seats. A penalty was given to the Swiss and Rodriguez decided to take it. Even though his shot was well-placed, Hugo Lloris made a heroic save that gave the French the lifeline they needed. Just a couple of minutes later, Karim Benzema made his triumphant appearance. He made a connection with Kylian Mbappe that turned into a Louvre-worthy stunner. It took Karim Benzema less than two minutes to get his brace after a brilliant collective play from Les Bleus. At this point, this France side seemed unplayable as they were at that moment. Paul Pogba even put the cherry on top with his classic ‘Pogboom’ finish from outside the box. The French were winning 3-1 but the Swiss never gave up. With nine minutes left on the clock, Seferovic pulled one back for his side and Gavranovic sent this game to extra time in dramatic fashion.
Both sides deserved to win after what they showed to the entire world: elite-level football. None of both sides could score the winner and the match became a nail-biter from the spot. Already in the shootout, and you will read the following sentence correctly. Everybody scored but one player. Kylian Mbappe missed his penalty and effectively eliminated France from the tournament. The favorite to win the Euros is no longer in the tournament. What a time to be a football fan.
